SUPPLIER QUALITY ENGINEER – SUMMARY

The Supplier Quality Engineer will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Supplier Quality functions. The Engineer will provide on-site launch support at suppliers’ facilities to ensure launch readiness as required leading up to and including program launch, to manage post launch continuous improvement activities. Provide on-site support at Somic America plants (Wytheville, VA and Brewer, ME)¬†as required. The Engineer will be responsible for working cross functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Purchasing to ensure proper designs, suppliers, and manufacturing processes are selected. Drive change within both plant manufacturing and component suppliers to resolve component issues. Ensure component suppliers’ processes are robust and capable. Manage key component quality milestones. Lead problem-solving activities with internal and external resources. Manage supplier’s capacities to ensure continuous supply for demand fluctuations, ramp up or ramp down.

This position will report to the Quality Manager in Wytheville, Virginia, and support both plant locations (Wytheville, VA and Brewer, ME) as a shared resource with the shared supply base.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • ASQ APQP Training
  • PFMEA Training
  • IATF TS 16949 Internal Auditor Certification
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and tasks
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to have frank and fair conversations with supplier’s management teams
  • Proficient interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office, ERP Systems, Quality Management System Software, IMDS, Minitab
  • Creative problem solving ability, statistical analysis and Six Sigma core tools; certified at a Green Belt or Black Belt level
  • Ability to travel at times frequently domestically and internationally
